with over 30 years experience in database design and programming. Her
experience includes 15 years as Director of Information Technology for the

Ellen retired from the Guild and became involved with alpacas, it was
natural for her to write a herd management software program. Breeders with

Q. Why was Filemaker chosen for the development database
program? A. Having used
all the major database programs at SAG, including Oracle, Ingres, MS
Access, Delphi, Filemaker and others, Filemaker was chosen for its
stability, flexibility, feature-rich characteristics and ease of
deployment. Filemaker consistently receives the highest marks in PC
Magazine and other computer sources.
Since Filemaker runs on both
PC and MAC computers, in virtually ALL common operating systems, it is
easy to migrate or switch between platforms or operating systems without
any loss or re-entry of data.
Q. What is the difference between AlpacaEASE and
HerdEASE? A. AlpacaEASE and
HerdEASE share the same format and functionality. AlpacaEASE is
limited to alpacas and llamas. HerdEASE has a
species setup module to enter any other animal species (horses, goats,
sheep, etc.) in addition to alpacas and llamas.
Q. What's new in Version 5? A. Version 5 is a
complete rewrite. The program has been migrated to the latest Filemaker
10, which is the only version of Filemaker approved for the new Windows 7
operating system! There are so many new and improved features, including a
whole new look and feel, multi-screen popups, codes and reference
libraries, document and photo management and direct data extract from ARI,
AN and OpenHerd databases! Also, written using a "separation model", data
and format files have been separated for easier upgrades. Like version 4,
the files are fully cross-platform and can be copied between PC operating
systems as well as between PC and MAC computers. You can even put AEHEv5
on a flash (USB) drive and virtually run it on any computer!!.
Q. Can I try AlpacaEASE/HerdEASEv5 before I buy? A. A
fully functioning "trial" version of AlpacaEASE/HerdEASEv5 is available
free of charge to any potential usesr. The trial version will run for 30
calendar days. When you purchase AlpacaEASE or HerdEASE, you will be sent
a registration code. Enter the registration code and that's it! There's no
new program to load and all your data remains intact. The PC or MAC trial
version can be downloaded here, if you have a high-speed internet
connection (such as DSL or cable.) Or you can request that a CD be mailed
to you.

Q. How much does AlpacaEASE/HerdEASE cost? A. AlpacaEASEv5
currently sells for $185.00 (US) and HerdEASEv5 sells for $225.00 (US).
That includes one year of free upgrades and support. There is a $25.00
annual renewal fee for upgrades and support, due on June 1st of each year
(following the 1st year.)
Q. How do I
purchase and register my copy of AlpacaEASE/HerdEASE? A. You can

Q. Can I network AlpacaEASE/HerdEASEv5? A. No,
AlpacaEASE/HerdEASE is not network-compatible. You can run
AlpacaEASE/HerdEASEv5 from a "shared" drive on your network, which will
allow access from any computer that has read-write authorization to that
drive/folder. However, AlpacaEASE/HerdEASEv5 is single-user, so only one
computer can access the files at any given time.
Q. Can I also run AlpacaEASE/HerdEASEv5 on my laptop when I
travel? A. You can run AlpacaEASE/HerdEASEv5 on any number of
computers. Just follow the Backup/Restore Instructions to copy or move AlpacaEASE
to another computer.
Q. What about support? A. AlpacaEASE/HerdEASE has always
received the highest level of support and that will continue with
v5!!

AlpacaEASE/HerdEASE makes no such claims! We test new releases as
thoroughly as we can, but minor glitches may still happen.
